Unfortunately, I don’t have a John Casey who can use his government connections to secure such a location. The reality is, an outdoor wedding is just too unpredictable—you’re at the mercy of the elements. And it’s so windy on the beach that most people won’t even be able to hear the ceremony. Also, outdoor weddings seem to be more expensive, not to mention the extra expense of having a back-up location.
The beach was out, but I still wanted to find someplace special for the wedding, someplace where people didn’t have to sit around bored in the time between the ceremony and the reception. Most importantly, I needed a place that fit my budget. I could not believe how expensive reception locations were and then they required the use of specific caterers, many of them more expensive than I could afford. On a whim, we looked at options in one of our favorite local places to visit and shop, Frankenmuth. To our surpise we found out that Zehnders is actually a very affordable place for a reception. They don’t charge to rent the room, tables, chairs, or dishes…all you pay for is the cost of the food. My guests can walk around the town, visit the shops, maybe Bronners, and even take a horse-drawn carriage ride if they’d like. For Carl and I, there are many great locations for picture-taking, a romantic setting, and a chance to celebrate at a location that holds special importance for us and our families.
I was at MSU this weekend and saw a wedding in the rose garden with the reception in a greenhouse. I thought that was creative and unusual.
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought of Zenders. If you are saving any money, have you thought about hiring a horse and carriage to take you across the covered bridge and for wedding shots?
ReplyDeleteYes, we're definitely looking into a carriage ride...it all depends on how much it costs.
ReplyDeleteFrankenmuth is beautiful. When I would visit there as a girl, I always got so excited when I'd see a bride passing by in a horse-drawn carriage. Wait, I still get excited :)
ReplyDeleteWow. That is suprising that Zenders is affordable. This will also be a great location for out of town guest since there are so many places to stay and things to do. I'm sure it will be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! We go to Birch Run all the time and after that, cruise through Frankenmeuth. The streets have those charming light posts with hanging impatients cascading down the poles. Double wow!
ReplyDeleteI love the beach as well. I would wonder about the sand with a wedding dress though. Frankenmuth sounds like a great place to have a wedding and the more money you save, the better honeymoon you can take.
